Dear Friends,
It’s shaping up to be a warm week here in Ashby, but we’ve got just the thing to keep you cool—air conditioning, great programs, and the Smithsonian Voices & Votes exhibit still here at the library! Don’t miss your chance to explore the history of democracy from the 1700s to today. There are interactive features for the whole family, so bring the kids, bring a friend, and enjoy some summer learning in comfort.
And speaking of the kids—there’s a lot happening this week!
Children’s Room & Outdoor Fun
Stop by the children’s room to check out our newest activities, then head to the backyard for some hands-on water play.
Tuesday
Lego Club – Tuesday at 4:00 PM.
Build, imagine, create!Joe Cantor’s Photography Group – Tuesday, 5:00–6:30 PM.
Admire the fantastic exhibit in the Joe Cantor Gallery, share ideas, and learn new techniques. New participants welcome!
Special Science Events
(No regular science group this week—we have two special science programs instead!)
Wednesday
Birds of Prey with Wingmasters – Wednesday at 11:00 AM in the Young Adult Room.
Meet rehabilitated raptors from our region and learn about their fascinating lives. Great for all ages except the very youngest, who might startle the birds. The assortment varies each year—my favorite is the tiny saw-whet owl!
Thursday
Art with Stephanie – Thursday, 1:30–3:00 PM.
We’ll be painting together for a relaxing, creative afternoon. (Custom name plates will be a separate session later due to a manufacturing delay.)
A Fond Farewell
Goodbye Party for Kierstyn – Thursday at 5:00 PM.
Kierstyn has been with us for two years, expertly running MarioKart sessions and making our young patrons feel welcome. Stop by for cake and college advice—she’ll be missed!
Evening Fun
Kosmic Kelly’s Magic Science Show – Thursday at 6:30 PM.
High-energy, hands-on science magic for all ages. A crowd favorite in Ashby!
Special Film Event
Majority Rules – Saturday, August 16 at 1:30 PM.
Join us for a screening and discussion with filmmaker Samantha deManbey about ranked choice voting. Refreshments will be served—check our Ranked Choice Voting Snack Page on Facebook to see what treats are “winning.”
Help Us Pick the End-of-Summer Movie & Food
We’re planning our end-of-summer celebration with an outdoor movie and food party for the kids—but we need your votes! Movie options are a little thin this year, so send in your suggestions. As for food, one vote has already been cast for s’mores, another for ice cream. Have your say before we put it to a vote—this summer is all about letting your voice be heard!
Raffles
We’re raffling 4 passes to Tower Hill Botanic Garden and 4 passes to Great Wolf Lodge—only $1 per ticket.
Stay cool, stay curious, and we’ll see you at the library!
