February Fun
A very busy month ahead.
Hi Friends,
February is a big and busy month here at the library! To make it easier to keep track of everything that’s happening, I’ve created a calendar you can stick right on your fridge. Several of our February vacation programs require RSVPs, so you’ll find those flyers highlighted below to give you plenty of advance notice.
Due to the weather, I’ve decided to postpone our in-library screening of the documentary The American Revolution for now. The good news is that Samantha DeMambey will be joining us in May to discuss the film, so there’s still plenty of time to watch it. We have the DVD available here at the library, and it is also available via streaming. I’ve watched it myself and highly recommend it — it’s excellent.
In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the library has set a goal of giving out 250 new library cards. The founders believed that an educated populace is essential to a free society — a belief that helped inspire Benjamin Franklin to establish the Free Library of Philadelphia. We’re proud to continue that tradition here in Ashby.
We’re also celebrating the important role the library plays in Ashby’s social life with a special Valentine to Ashby on February 14. Join us at 4:00 PM for a Valentine’s Day concert with the Nissitissit String Quartet. An open house will take place just before the concert, where you can explore our newly remodeled children’s room and other recent updates that may be new to you. Light refreshments will be served. Please invite friends and neighbors — especially those who may not yet be library users — to enjoy this special afternoon with us.
This month’s newsletter is a long one, so not every program is described in full detail here. Look for more information about late-month events in upcoming newsletters.
We look forward to seeing you at the library!

Join us for an exciting new children’s art program where creativity takes center stage! Led by an enthusiastic young instructor, this hands-on class invites kids to explore different art materials and techniques through a new project each session.
Our first class will feature oil pastels, giving young artists a chance to experiment with bold color, blending, and texture while creating their own unique masterpiece. A snack will be provided to keep those creative juices flowing.
This program is designed for children ages 4 and up. Our youngest participants are very welcome — just plan for a grown-up to stay and lend a helping hand if needed.
Come be part of our very first session and help us kick off this fun new art adventure! 🎨
